Introduction
Bell and Telus are two huge telecommunication companies that provide internet and phone services to Canadians. There is a considerable amount of marketing efforts behind both companies as it is vital to maintain and gather new customers. When comparing these two company’s Twitter accounts there are a lot of similarities but a couple major differences we can take away from the research. First off, Bell prides themselves on their corporate social responsibility with their “Bell Let’s Talk” campaign. The company donates millions of dollars towards mental illness because of the campaign. They seem to have more of a serious vibe in comparison to Telus, I say this because Telus is into using animals throughout their content which gives off a more approachable vibe.
Bell –
Bell frequently tweets about their newest and latest products as does Telus. Bell however is more about social responsible, content dealing with popular news stories will get more attention than those that do not. This is where Bell excels because the company is constantly tweeting about content that people are interested in including professional athletes and their teams as well as celebrities.
Bell’s tweet stats:
- Is following over 1350 people
- Has 56.7k followers
Telus –
Telus has an overall lighter vibe with their tweets. They tweet more images and gifs which creates more of a buzz around their tweets because people like and reply more that way. That is not to say they don’t post enough information based content because they do. They also, like Bell, reply to tweets helping customers with whatever help they may need. Additionally, Telus posts more frequently than Bell does which some could view as a positive thing, however too much content could drive followers away.
Telus’ tweet stats:
- Is following over 63.2k people
- Has 110.4k followers
Conclusion:
These two titans of industry have similar approaches with their Twitter accounts but have different underlying themes. Bell is more serious and all about social responsibility, whereas Telus has a lighter vibe. Both companies respond to their clients of course. Based on the stats, Telus has a stronger presence on twitter as they have nearly double the followers. Additionally, they follow a significant amount of more people than Bell which is a strength.
