PET CAT? WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
Cats are known to be the most independent animals on the planet. They are also known to be very therapeutic. If you are someone who is constantly on the go, doesn’t have time to take care of a dog, but would like a comforting furry friend around, a cute kitty is what you need. However, before making that final purchase there are a number of things you must consider. Like any pet, cats are a huge responsibility and if you have not prepared for one (or many) correctly, you may have a very cranky and unhappy feline in your home. Below is a brief outline of things you will need to do before getting a pet cat.
- Allergy Test
One might think it’s common sense to ensure you are not allergic to a cat before planning to get one. However, more common than enough people develop new allergies and are desensitized to old allergies, as time passes. So that means if you were not allergic to cats at 7yrs old, you could be allergic to cats at 27yrs old. Before planning on getting a cat, book a doctor appointment and get an allergy test done.
If you find out you are allergic – find out what exactly about the cat you are allergic too. If you are allergic to the cat’s fur, consider getting a short-haired feline or a naked cat. A naked cat is a hairless cat. These felines may not be the prettiest but they are still loving, affectionate, animals that provide comfort. Now, if you find the results of the allergy test are negative, still take the precaution of spending time with someone else’s cat before purchasing your own. While spending time with this cat if you are still getting allergy symptoms, it may be because you are one of the very few people to be allergic to the cat’s saliva. You may wonder how the cat’s saliva will affect you if he/she keeps it in his/her mouth, but prepare to have your mind blown… As we all know cats are very independent animals and suitable for any busy person. Their independence includes bathing themselves. The way cats bathe themselves is my licking their fur. So ultimately, if you aren’t allergic to a cat’s fur you can still be allergic to the cat due to its saliva. If you have cleared the allergy test you may move forward to the next step!
