In today’s NBA things are vastly different from the days of old. In the past players used to keep loyalty and passion as a key to the game, whereas in the current NBA players treat the NBA as a tool to make money and create a name for yourself. Athletes such as LeBron James, and Kevin Durant have created a world where you can jump from team to team as you please simply because you feel you have an easier path to “glory”. Where as in the past of this sport players such as Tim Duncan, Kobe Bryant, and many others played 10-20 years on one team and put passion over winning.
Fan Focus
Created from this is a fan-ship that also has no loyalty, and when you begin to win people jump ship to the popular team at the moment. Fans have come in and out of the NBA as if it was a revolving door and their loyalty has the attention span that of a budgie.
As a loyal fan for my entire life span it irritates me to watch players, and fans alike just leave the competition or rivalry out of the equation. Players should battle, compete, and attempt to better those who have conquered them in the past which you see both on and off the floor. The NBA of old is one with love, and fire; but, with today it is money and a fashion show. To see any form of change and go back to the days where players and fans battled, were loyal, and did not travel from team to team as if they were on a road trip the NBA must establish a new feeling of competition and brand rivalry.
I say all this as I love the NBA, and I truly want to see the days where people fought as if it meant something come back and not just feel as players have made money, and have no motivation to play.
Conclusion
So, in the end of what I am trying to say it boils down to a few simple concepts. The state of the NBA is in desperate need of assistance, and have it has no idea what to do to fix any of their issues. Players travel around as if they own the place, and now even control the way the all-star game works. Owners and general managers do not have any control over what players say or do on, and off the court. Even the commissioner has lost his say over players and how they act. But, most of all the main issue is with the fans. People coming in, and out as if it is a revolving door has created a world where there is no loyalty. A world where players, and fans alike simply cheer for who is currently winning, but not for who they truly love.
The days of old are unfortunately gone and with that so is the NBA that I truly came to love.
