The OnePlus 7 Pro, is one of the first phones to feature a motorized camera. The phone’s camera can be popped out and retracted at will. This gives the phone a high screen to body ratio. Is this new motorized camera a Gamechanger or Dealbreaker?
Durability is a primary concern regarding the motorized camera. Having a part that is constantly moving increases the risk of it breaking. Moving parts are more prone to suffering damage if the phone were to drop. Another factor to consider would be the challenges of waterproofing a phone with a moving component. For some, these inconveniences would outweigh the extra screen space that the motorized camera offers.
OnePlus released two videos on their YouTube channel. The first video showcases the phone’s camera undergoing a stress test for 12 hours. Another video showcased the pop-up camera’s strength as lifts nearly 50 lbs. The camera is designed to automatically retract when the phone is dropped. Oneplus claims that the camera can slide up and down 300,000 times. The phone is also offered in different configurations. This gives customers options that fit their budget. The Oneplus 7 offers specifications comparable to other top phones. The phone includes a fingerprint scanner underneath the screen. It also uses face recognition technology using the pop-up camera.
OnePlus has made it very clear that they’ve done their research. They’ve certainly done a great job at demonstrating the durability of the motorized camera.
