Flawless Makeup Application for College Students

Technically, there are no rules when applying makeup. It can be done in any order, and using any tools or techniques you want. However, the point of this blog is to guide you in the process to achieve the most flawless makeup application as humanly possible!

Step 1: Achieving a Flawless Base

The first step to applying flawless makeup is to achieve a flawless base. Taking care of your skin is the most important step.  Washing and moisturizing your face will create a smooth base to lay the rest of your makeup on. The next step is to prime your skin. Depending on your skin type, there are different primers that will work best for you. There are four types of skin types: dry, oily, combination, and normal. For example, if you have oily or combination skin, you might want to use a more mattifying primer that will combat the oiliness of the skin. On the other hand, if you have dry or normal skin, you might want to opt for a more illuminating primer that will brighten up your skin and make it look more hydrated. Choosing the right primer for your skin type is very important in laying the foundation for the rest of your flawless makeup application.

Step 2: Foundation and Concealer

The next step to achieving a flawless makeup look is foundation and concealer. Depending on your skin colour, you may want to opt for different undertones of foundation. There are three main undertones, warm, neutral, and cool. In order to achieve a flawless foundation shade, match the foundation colour to your neck and not your face. Foundation can oxidize over time which means that it reacts chemically when it is exposed to oxygen and can change colour. When choosing foundation shades, try on the foundation and wear it around for a couple minutes before purchasing it to see how the foundation wears and how much it oxidizes upon being exposed to oxygen. The final step to choosing your perfect foundation is choosing the amount of coverage you desire. Foundations come in various types including: full coverage, medium coverage, light coverage, and sheer coverage. Depending on how much coverage you desire will depend on which foundation you will want to purchase.

After successfully choosing the perfect foundation match for you, the next step is to choose the right concealer. Your concealer shade should be a couple shades lighter than your foundation colour. The purpose of your concealer is to create highlights on your face that will brighten up your complexion. Highlighting the face is important in order to create multiple dimensions to the face. If you skip this step, your face will appear very flat and lifeless. Although it is important to highlight, you also don’t want to choose a shade that is too light. One or two shades lighter than your foundation colour is perfect.

Step 3: Bronzing and Contouring

Bronzing is an important step to achieving a flawless makeup application. Bronzing your cheek bones, forehead and jawline will make your skin look more warm and sun kissed. Depending on how light or deep your skin tone is will effect how dark you will want your bronzer to be. Bronzing your skin is an optional step in achieving a flawless makeup application. However, contouring is important because it allows you to create shape and definition to your face.

Step 4: Blush and Highlight

After creating some definition to the face, the next step is to add blush and highlight. Blush comes in many different shades with many different undertones.
