I am going to be analyzing and discussing the difference between both Telus, and Bell’s social media presence and decide which one is more effective. Both brands are very involved with social media and just by briefly looking over both brands on multiple platforms it is quite easy to see the difference between the brands strategies.
Upon looking at both Telus and Bell social media platforms, it is evident that both companies are trying to do lots of charitable work and “events” to try and be in touch and reach out to the general public. Fundraisers such as Bell Lets Talk Day is a huge event in which they donate 5 cents from every tweet, text message, etc to mental health awareness, that is huge PR for Bell! Bell also seems to promote their products much more through social media where as Telus uses lots of consumer feedback on their social media pages to try and market their products that way. Bell also has a much more “serious” approach to its advertisements where as Telus uses things such as the cute little animals in its commercials and ads to to try attract and gain consumers attention. Both good approaches, just with different goals trying to be achieved by the companies.
Also, when I compare both brands on social media, I notice Telus replies to users comments and concerns on social media, where as Bell doesn’t do that as much. I believe good customer service like that creates brand loyalty and I think consumers sincerely appreciate the concern that Telus has for their comments. Not to mention, other people may have the same questions, etc and then they can see the answer publicly and save them from having to ask.
A big factor both companies need to ensure they are taking into account is how often they post on social media as well as the proper times to post to create traffic on their pages and that theyre reaching the proper target audience that they are aiming for. Also how they can use their social media accounts to compliment their other advertisements, to work simultaneously together and create a much better brand experience for the consumers.
Overall, it seems as though Bell is more marketing their products through social media, and Telus is more about consumer support and reaching consumers on a more personal level. While both effective strategies to use through social media, I believe that (personally) the Telus approach is a better one. Like I stated previously, when a company replies to consumers and tries to reach them on a personal level, it makes consumers feel special and I believe that can create consumer loyalty, versus a brand that seems unreachable if you have any questions or concerns. Bell has very straight forward, and professional ads, but don’t seem to be on such a personal level like the Telus social media accounts portray.
