HBK Martial Arts
HBK Martial Arts
HBK Martial Arts and Wellness Centre is a first-rate martial arts studio in Port Perry. They offer classes in several different traditional martial arts studies.
Classes are lead by a wonderful teacher; Grandmaster Hanshi Fred. He has an eighth-degree black belt and has been practicing karate for most of his life. As a result of this, students at HBK have a great opportunity to learn.
HBK’s intention is to create a well-rounded student. Because of that, they want to know why you want to train and help you reach your goals. Rather than teach one goal, they teach every goal you could ever want to achieve.
Other than teaching self-defense, they also teach other life skills you will need. You will learn confidence, focus, and respect.
Karate-Jitsu
Some styles teach you how to fight with weapons, where this style teaches empty hand fighting. At HBK, there are six levels before you can reach black belt. Each level belt has a different colour.
The first belt is the white belt. It symbolizes a birth of a seed because it is the beginning of the life cycle. This is when the student wants to learn about the art in general.
Next, is the yellow belt. This colour symbolizes sunlight shining on the seed. The student gets new strength and knowledge.
After yellow, comes another belt; orange. The orange belt symbolizes the power the sun gives to the seed to grow, and open their mind.
Then it is the green belt. This symbolizes the growth of the seed, reaching towards the sun. The student refines their techniques.
Blue is the next colour. Blue is the colour of the sky, representing the seed continuously to grow. This is because the student continues to get more knowledge and experience.
The second last colour at HBK MArtial Arts is brown. This represents the seed ripening and maturing. The student is advanced and their techniques are mature.
The last belt, of course, is the black belt. Black is the highest level at HBK Martial Arts. It symbolizes the blackness past the sun. Because of this, the student finds new profound knowledge. The student may also begin to teach what they learned. The student will plant new seeds and it all starts over again.
As a student progresses through the different ranks, the difficulty goes up. As a result of this, it takes a longer amount of time to move up to the next belt.
Grading
When a student is ready to move up, they go through a grading. A grading is an exam, making sure you know your skills well enough. At a grading, all of the teachers sit in front of the student and ask them to do their skills. After the student is finished, their teachers decide whether they pass.
When a student passes, there is a ceremony. The student gets their new belt. The proper way to tie a karate belt is with a double knot. When the student gets their new belt, they tie the first knot, and then the master teacher ties the second knot. This symbolizes that the student and teachers have worked together to achieve this. But teamwork is something very important at HBK Martial Arts.
