The 3-point line was added into the game of basketball in 1979. It took the game 30 years to adjust and realize the importance this line. NBA teams like the Golden State Warriors, Houston Rockets, and Clevland Cavaliers have had major success while shooting a high volume of 3-pointers. The Houston Rockets lead the way by having 40.1 attempts per game last year, 10 years ago the Golden State Warriors lead the league with only 24.8 attempts per game. The correlation between attempting 3-pointers and having success as a franchise is shown in the statistics. The 4 most successful teams last year, all attempted and made the most 3 pointers in the NBA. Individual player success has also been affected by the change in the style. Current superstars in the NBA are embracing the change and have had tremendous success doing so.
Stephen Curry
Many people say that Stephen Curry is the sole reason behind the three-point epidemic that has taken over basketball. On April 13th, 2016 Stephen Curry did the unthinkable and hit 10 three-pointers in one game to become the first ever player to hit 400 in a single season. He completed this task before anyone could even reach 300. Curry also holds the record for most three-pointers in a single game of 12. Many of the best shooters to ever play the game, Ray Allen, Reggie Miller have never come close to affecting the game the way Stephen Curry has. The young generation of up and coming basketball players are beginning to adjust their style of play to be like the best.
