I love the challenge of carp fly fishing so much, I even got a tatoo of a carp on my arm. It’s a local DIY in urban and rural areas. It still amazes me how many different environments carp thrive in. Carp are huge fish and fight hard, and are difficult to fool and take a fly, here in lies the challenge. Every day is a learning curve, fly patterns and new challenges arise. I have put people on fish there first day out, some days it takes 3 to get one. If they are seeing fish, and we always do in the Kawartha’s. Its not known for the big fish, but the numbers are there. The last few years, they are getting fatter and bigger, with a few 50” every year.

I mainly fish in the Kawartha’s and Durham region, but have travelled all over Ontario to fly fish. I was a guide in Kenora, where I set the Ontario record for a walleye on the fly. I have fished all the big rivers for steelhead and salmon.

My area of expertise is fly fishing for carp and Muskie, however. I do fly fish for other species, depending on the season. Sometimes it’s the tributaries of Lake Ontario or the big lake itself. Lake Ontario has huge numbers of carp, and their diets varies on seasons. I have always cooked, but now it has elevated. As a graduate of Durham College Culinary program, I have worked at some great restaurants and now it’s time for me to do my own thing. I’m going to blend my two passion and make a career out it. Using my creativity in cooking and fly tying to make meals that are local, taste great and that make a unique dinning experience, wait I forgot to tell you.
